Liftra Demonstrates LT1500 Installation Crane at Full Scale in Aalborg
24 September 2026

Liftra has completed the first full-scale demonstration of its new LT1500 Installation Crane, marking an important step in the development of a new approach to installing next-generation wind turbines. The demonstration took place at Liftra’s test site in Aalborg and brought together more than 350 customers, partners and representatives from across the global wind industry.
The day opened at Liftra’s new location at Fåborgvej in Aalborg with remarks from Aalborg Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen, Green Power Denmark CEO Kristian Jensen and Liftra CEO Per Fenger before guests continued to the LT1500 Venue for the full-scale demonstration.
The LT1500 performed as intended throughout the demonstration, successfully showcasing the crane at full scale in front of customers and industry partners.
During the event, Liftra also presented a broader range of technologies, including demonstrations of the LT1200 Self-Hoisting Crane and Skylark, alongside products and solutions from across the company’s portfolio.
A New Approach to Wind Turbine Installation
The LT1500 Installation Crane is designed to address some of the challenges associated with installing increasingly tall wind turbines.
Rather than relying on conventional cranes, the LT1500 connects directly to the turbine tower and climbs using its own winching system. The concept builds on Liftra’s experience with Self-Hoisting Crane technology and has been developed with flexibility across different turbine and tower configurations in mind. The crane is designed for hub heights above 200 m and components weighing up to 120 t.
Its compact and modular design allows the crane to be transported in approximately 7–9 truckloads and operate from a crane pad of less than 900 m², reducing requirements for transportation, civil works and site preparation.

“The full-scale demonstration went better than we could have planned, and seeing the LT1500 perform as intended in front of customers and partners from across the industry was a very special moment. The idea behind the LT1500 goes back to 2016, the patent followed in 2018, and four years ago we intensified the development of the crane we see today. Reaching this point after such a journey is a proud moment for Liftra and an important step forward for the industry,” says Liftra CEO Per Fenger.
Collaboration Across Industry and Aalborg
Developing and introducing new solutions at this scale requires close cooperation between technology providers, turbine manufacturers, developers and other industry partners to test, de-risk and prepare technologies for real-world projects.
The demonstration also highlighted Liftra’s strong roots in Aalborg and the importance of collaboration between local industry, research and educational institutions.
In his opening remarks, Aalborg Mayor Lasse Frimand Jensen highlighted Aalborg’s ambition to support a growing industry and the opportunities created through collaboration between companies, educational institutions and other local actors. He pointed to Liftra as an example of a company that has built strong connections across the local community.
“The LT1500 is an example of how, if we work closely together, we will be able to achieve great things,” said Lasse Frimand Jensen, Mayor of Aalborg.
Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark, emphasized the importance of continued research, development and collaboration in maintaining Denmark’s strong position in the wind industry. He highlighted how bringing companies, engineers and researchers together is key to creating new solutions.
“This is an example of what we need going forward. We need ingenuity, we need research, and we need companies to work together,” said Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark.
